Brrrrr, this Klondike was FREEZING! The directors actually looked up the temperature of the place the campout was based on, and where we were was colder! We had some deep snow, but that was actually kinda cool(pun intended) because we haven’t snow camped since our first campout ever, in 2019! we were able to keep warm though nice warm fires, lots of snacks, keeping our blood flowing, lots of layers, and lots of changing socks.
We went to some FUN stations this year! We finally got in line soon enough to do the electric wall, when you have to get everything over a wall without touching it. We also did stations we’ve done in years past, like shelter building out of a parachute, piggypack riding and shooting nerf guns, bridge building, knot races, and leprechaun saving. thankfully, they had hot chocolate stations set up around, so free hot chocolate!
There were also things outside of activities that we did! We entered patch designs for the contest which decided what the next year would be, deserts for that competition, and we got chosen to perform a skit at the closing ceremony! It was SO much easier to do those this year because our campsite was so close to where all the competitions were being held.
Part of what made this campout so enjoyable was that we were so prepared – without that preparation, we wouldn’t have known the skills we needed for the stations, and we definitely would’ve had people freeze from the cold. Because of it, even though it was cold and tiring, we were able to have fun! So follow the scout motto, and Be Prepared!
